VIDEO: Okay Google, Hey Siri, Alexa… How Is Voice Search Impacting Your Business?

by Apr 24, 2019The Internet

Okay Google, Hey Siri, Alexa… chances are, you’ve used voice search at some point in the past month—possibly even at some point today. If not, you certainly have a family member who uses voice search frequently?

Okay, hold up. Why does this even matter?

Here’s the deal…

The way people search for products, services, and information is changing. Rather than someone going to a search engine (i.e. Google or Bing), they are now able to easily ask a question to their phone or a smart speaker.

Just how common is this? Let’s look at some stats real quickly.

Voice Search Stats

The following stats come from alphametic.com.

  • 1 in 6 Americans now own a smart speaker
  • By 2020, 50% of all searches are expected to be voice searches
  • 20% of mobile searches are voice searches
  • 40% of adults use voice search daily

As you can see, voice search can no longer be ignored. You need to take into consideration the different ways people speak versus how they type.

The most important consideration is with your website’s Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Rather than focusing on keywords driven from the way people type questions or searches, it’s time to now consider how people ask questions verbally.

Take Action

Whether you’re writing a blog post or simply writing content for one of your product pages, spend some time thinking about how someone may search for that product. And, when you do this, think about how they may search by typing or speaking. This will help you potentially identify new keywords to target.
